AT&T and T-Mobile’s Merge: Is it Really Happening?

Well it looks like the giant merge between AT&T and T-Mobile is no more for the time being. The merge called for AT&T to take over the little guy, that is until the federal government sued to block AT&T from it’s proposed acquisition of T-Mobile on antitrust grounds. So this is awesome news for all of those people who were unhappy about the merge.

The U.S. said in their filing that “AT&T’s elimination of T-Mobile as an independent, low-priced rival would remove a significant competitive force from the market,” and they are right. The US Regulators still need to officially reject the deal, but it seems like this is going to really happen after this filing.

If the AT&T Merge is stopped then AT&T Will have to pay Deutsche Telekom over $3 billion and then fork over some wireless spectrum. So it looks like you’ll be able to keep that low plan for a little bit longer.
