Feeling like Crap… is horrible… usually you feel like this when you are sick, or you have a hang over. Up to a couple of days ago, the only cure for this “crappy” feeling has always been time and a whole bunch of rest. But now, thanks to researchers from the Oregon Health and Science University, they figured out where that feeling of crappyness comes from, and they have figured out a way to make it go away!
When you feel sick, you usually get attacked with a couple of symptoms: coughing, sneezing, body aches, headaches, etc. Most of the time, you feel tired and you lack energy to do just about anything. Not even eating a happy meal fixes you spirit, and for some reason or another, when you get sick, your friends instantly invite you out to parties or bars, or even worse… you get called in to work without the option of calling in sick.
Well, this new research revealed that your body uses every single type of resource to keep you fighting against what ever disease you have attacking your body. In this “fight” your body pretty much uses every type of energy which in turn, keeps you in bed. The researchers found that the brain has a bunch of neurons that make you want to sleep in an effort to save your energy. The neurons stop the prodution of Orexin (the happy feeling proteins) once your body runs out of Orexin, you start to feel sad, crappy, and sick. So what the researchers did was, give Orexin to rats that were sick in an attempt to make them act normal and it worked. The rats began to act as if they weren’t sick at all. This is actually good news for people who have chronic illnesses, but it’s not that great for people who get sick once in a blue moon.
The only problem with taking this pill is that you stop your body from fighting against what ever illness you have. Your body has developed an amazing way of protecting your self against just about anything. One of the side effects of this defense is the “crappy” feeling, fevers, coughing, etc. The body has a reason to activate this kind of defense. What you have to understand is that, for the most part… your body will not kill you while it fights against an infection… there have been cases where people have died from fevers etc, but it’s very rare. What this pill does, is shut down your “sleep now mode” and makes you stay active, effectively making you feel good for the day, but in return it stretches out your sickness from what potentially could be a one week long sickness, to a one month long sickness.
I would just wait for my body to take care of it’s self and stay in bed for a day or two, but I would still buy these pills just in case I need to go to work one morning and there is no way of calling in to work.
