Facebook unveiled the “Places” application a few months ago, it was a copy of foursquare that gave you the ability to check into places and tag your friends at the location with you.
Unfortunately, the places application never really caught on with anyone, so Facebook is getting rid of the app. Places, Foursquare, and other Geolocation applications never really caught on, they weren’t popular enough, and they didn’t bring any actual money to the table.
I’m not an active user of Places or Foursquare, and the only times my name is associated with such applications is when I get tagged by someone. There just isn’t any value or incentive for me to use the app… I’m sure the “Mayor” of the convenience store might argue against that one though.
