Mexico is trying to build an EarthScraper – The opposite of a SkyScraper

Skyscrapers go up, Earthscrapers, go down, and Mexico’s Architecture group, BNKR Arquitectura, are actually going to build an EarthScraper. Think of it as an upside down skyscraper buried 65 stories down. This is going to hide a miniature city right in the center of Mexico City.

This is supposed to be designed in such a way that it’s going to incorporate Mexico’s history. The bottom 10 floors will be dedicated to the Aztecs, it will be turned into a museum, underneath that, there will be apartments, and finally at the very bottom, you will have Businesses. The building will be about 300 meters below the surface, and let’s hope to god that a business doesn’t catch fire down there because the whole structure would go up in flames.

Something that these architects should really look at is the Geographic History books, if you know anything about Mexico’s history, is that the city is actually tilting and sinking thanks to the water that’s underneath the city. They also need to check up on the earthquakes that hit Mexico from time to time. An earthquake could easily devastate this EarthScraper.

Then you have the whole problem of water leaks, imagine all the water that’s going to be pouring down into this hole. And lastly, keeping it well ventilated and at a good enough temperature. I don’t want to live in a hotter than hell leaky apartment complex next to the sewage pipes 65 stories underground. I wonder how they will take care of the rat problem they had a few years back?
