The Hoverboard from “back to the future” finally exists!

A while back we had an article about how close we were to anti gravity, and how we wished that someone made the hoverboard from “Back To The Future” where Michael J. Fox plays the kid Marty McFly, well today a French Artist named Nils Guadagnin created a working prototype!

This is actually very cool, when the Hoverboard came out in the 80’s it was … pure movie magic. But as technology moved on etc, we were able to create a working one without the movie magic. It does use physics magic though. Nils created the board using an extremely powerful magnet and a laser guided balancing system. He places the board on a large box that has additional magnets that repel each other and the board sits there floating/hovering in the air for hours.

He even pushes the board down a little and it bounces several times before coming back to a stop. What he really needs to do is make the same type of board, and use extra powerful magnets on a large track. Currently the board doesn’t seem to be able to move from the box, but in the future who knows!

It’s not using the “anti-mater” technology we talked about in the article above, however if we do figure out how to use actual anti gravity particles, we can see many more of these boards come to life.
